It is just over three weeks now until the release of The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Batman trilogy. It has been four years since the last installment, so it is not surprising that with the release date finally in sight, the anticipation for the film is intensifying.

So far the action packed trailers have promised an ‘epic conclusion.’ For fans hoping to be blow away by stunning action scenes, it appears there is good reason to believe this film won’t disappoint. It has recently been revealed that action will truly dominate the film.

Speaking last week, the film’s director of photography, Wally Pfister, revealed that The Dark Knight Rises will feature an hour worth of action sequences, and in total around a hundred minutes of chase sequences, close-quarter combat, aerial battles and street warfare. The official running time for the film is currently set at 2 hours and 45 minutes, which means there is about an hour of running time left for the areas of major plot development.

This information raises the important question, is there too much action for this third instalment, compared to previous two films? There is little doubt that Nolan should be able to deliver epic and visually stunning action scenes in this film, with tight plot and dialogue as well (from his brother Jonathan Nolan), but we just have to hope he hasn’t got carried away with too much of a good thing.
