If you were roused from your slumber this morning by what sounded like the collective squeal of millions of girls (and boys) worldwide, don’t panic too much; there’s a good reason.

After fourteen years together, power-couple Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have parted ways.

Despite repeatedly slamming rumors that their relationship was in trouble in recent months, the two have now “amicably separated,” according to Depp’s publicist.

The couple, who lived a relatively low-key life in the South of France with their children Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10, had not appeared at a public event together since 2010, but often gushed about their romance in interviews.

On starting a family with Paradis, Depp revealed “It was destiny; kismet. All the math finally worked.”

Only a couple of years ago, Paradis claimed “I could make an endless list of all the things I admire about him.”

So could we, Vanessa. Although, your list mightn’t include such additions as “his Captain Jack Sparrow swagger” and “the way he taught that girl in Cry Baby  how to French.”

Rumours are now circulating that Depp is romantically involved with his openly bisexual Rum Diaries co-star, Amber Heard.

Let’s be honest, if the end of his long-term relationship coincided with the release of a film in which he acted alongside a lawn chair, rumors of aromantic involvement with inanimate objects would probably flourish soon enough too.
