Brett Easton Ellis Wants To Adapt Fifty Shades of Grey

Brett Easton Ellis Wants To Adapt Fifty Shades of Grey

Bret Easton Ellis has announced his interest in adapting Fifty Shades of Grey to the big screen.

Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the world’s most controversial new novels. British author E.L. James’ book is just film franchise hysteria waiting to happen.

The so called ‘mummy porn’ has topped best-seller lists worldwide since its 2011 release. With two follow up novels waiting to complete the trilogy, this is a minefield for film-makers.

Bret Easton Ellis is no stranger to controversy himself. The outspoken writer holds two late 20th century US masterpieces to his name, American Psycho and Less Than Zero – two definitive pieces of literature that still have immeasurable influence on popular culture today.

Not only did Ellis announce via Twitter that he would like to write the adapted screen-play for Fifty Shades of Grey, but he also has been pondering over the potential cast. In fact, he hasn’t stopped voicing his thoughts for the last four days:

“Okay. Today the team has been briefed and we will be approaching the studio this week about BEE adapting “Fifty Shades of Grey” into a film.”

Ellis would, there’s no doubt, be a well qualified contender for re-imagining this story for the big screen. This may be over-hyped speculation, but still – its worth getting excited about.
