Bizarre Bazaar's First Birthday

The team from A Series of Fortunate Events has been buzzing with excitement in recent days over upcoming events and some recent announcements that attest to the young company’s success to date and herald even more progress on the horizon.

ASoF Events will celebrate the first birthday of Bizarre Bazaar, their premier twilight market for emerging fashion designers on 17 May 2012 in Sydney’s Angel Place (an iconic location that also plays host to Forgotten Songs, a permanent art installation of the Laneways: By George! Hidden Networks project). This event will mark the progress of Bizarre Bazaar from a TAFE Sydney Institute group project into a thriving community project supporting up-and-coming fashion designers, photographers, graphic designers, make-up artists, hairstylists, models and fashion stylists.

ASoF Events will again collaborate with mobile entertainment gurus Guerilla Gigs to present Triple J Unearthed artists Panama, who will perform their new single Magic for Bizarre Bazaar’s first birthday celebrations. Previous partnerships for Bizarre Bazaar have seen shoppers entertained by acclaimed artists such as Paulini and Faker, who performed on an upstairs balcony with lead singer Nathan Hudson perched on the safety railing, and attendees can expect much of the same on 17 May.

The birthday event will also bring together thirty emerging fashion designers and boutique stockists, including newcomers Ampersander and Linda Natalie Jewellery along with Bizarre Bazaar residents Lotus Mendes, Age of Intimacy and 2Shae with exciting new collections.

Christopher McLaren, founder of Bizarre Bazaar and ASoF Events says, “We have certainly experienced our share of ups and downs over the past twelve months, battling a struggling retail climate and dreadful Sydney weather.  We are humbled by the support of media, partners and designers, and we look forward to seeing Bizarre Bazaar go from strength to strength in 2012.”

Olivia Warne of Pendulum Communications added, “We have been involved with A Series Of Fortunate Events from the inception of this remarkable concept in 2011, and have watched it grow to become one of Sydney’s most popular regular fashion events. Christopher is one of the most talented and passionate people I know in the industry, and he will without a doubt continue to grow Bizarre Bazaar into an even bigger and fabulous concept in year two.”

LUNA also spoke exclusively to Sasha Hartley last week after her debut collection was launched at an event hosted by ASoF Events.
